What does it take to grow a musician?
Student musicians must continue to improve their performance skills on their instrument and grow in their knowledge of music
related history and theory. This calls for hard work and a commitment on the part of the student, orchestra director, and parents. If a
student is going to succeed, they need encouragement to work hard, and praise when making a sincere effort. As a parent you can
help your child progress on his or her instrument by taking the time to arrange for weekly lessons with a private teacher. Above is a
list of teachers in the area who have indicated they are available for private tutoring this year. Do not wait any longer than necessary
to contact a teacher about private study for your child. Teachers' schedules fill very quickly in the fall.
It is important that a student has a good quality instrument. Purchasing an instrument is certainly costly, but very important. Be
careful when buying an instrument. Have your child's orchestra director and/or private teacher check its condition and quality before
making a commitment to purchase.
